LinkedIn Invites, Messages and Replies
How Revnu runs LinkedIn outreach. Where a LinkedIn sequence lives, what Approve does on each LinkedIn card, which approval settings cover which sends, how to change a connection note or follow-up, moving an email campaign to LinkedIn, mixing LinkedIn and email, where replies go, and when LinkedIn is the wrong channel.
Most LinkedIn outreach runs as a sequence: a connection request, a message once they accept, and maybe an email. You approve the sequence once, and its LinkedIn steps then send on their own, paced to protect your account. One-off invites and messages outside a sequence follow two switches in Settings > Agent.
To find a sequence, open Leads, pick the campaign, then click the steps pill next to it, for example 3 Steps. There's no separate Sequences page.
LinkedIn has to be connected first. See connect LinkedIn.
How do I start LinkedIn outreach?
Ask Revnu in chat
For example: "connect with the founders on this list, then follow up once they accept." Revnu writes a sequence with LinkedIn steps and puts the people in it.
Open the sequence
Open Leads, pick the campaign and click the steps pill next to it. The sequence opens in a window.
Read each step
Change anything you want, as described in change the connection note or follow-up.
Press Approve
Press Approve at the top of the sequence window.
Note
Approving a sequence lets every step send to every person in it, now and later, without asking again. Read each step first.
Revnu checks LinkedIn sequences once each weekday and sends each person their next step, inside your LinkedIn limits. Your account's first sequence always waits for you to approve it, whatever your settings say.
To see who has been invited so far, open the ••• menu in the sequence window and choose Recipients. The Progress column shows how far each person has got, such as "1 of 3 sent". More on the window: sequences.
You can save a LinkedIn sequence before LinkedIn is connected. It starts on the first daily check after you connect.
How do I move an email campaign to LinkedIn?
You keep the campaign and its leads, and add LinkedIn steps to its sequence. The quickest way is to ask Revnu: "add a connection request and a LinkedIn message to my agencies campaign, and drop the second email."
To do it yourself:
Open the sequence
Open the sequence from the steps pill on Leads and press Edit.
Add a LinkedIn step
Press Add Step and pick Connect on LinkedIn or LinkedIn Message.
Save it
Press Save & Approve.
Two things to know:
Leads need a LinkedIn profile. A lead with an email but no LinkedIn profile waits unstarted. Open the lead's row on Leads: it says Can't Start and why, for example "No LinkedIn profile". Ask Revnu to find the missing profiles.
A changed sequence may need your approval again. If Start Sequences is on Ask Me First in Settings > Agent, the edited sequence waits for you. On Just Do It it goes live.
What does Approve do on a LinkedIn card?
It depends on the card.
| What you're approving | Where | What Approve does |
|---|---|---|
| A sequence with LinkedIn steps | The sequence window on Leads, or its card in Review | Starts the sequence. Every step then sends to every person in it, now and later, without asking again |
| LinkedIn invite to a person ("Send this connection request?") | Review | Sends that invite now, with exactly the note shown |
| LinkedIn message to a person ("Send this LinkedIn message?") | Review | Sends that message now, exactly as shown |
| A LinkedIn InMail to a person | Review | Sends that InMail, with its subject, exactly as shown |
| A suggestion, question or choice | Review | Records your answer. Revnu acts on it next. Nothing sends from the card itself |
A LinkedIn invite, message or InMail card still has to fit your limits and working hours. If you approve one at 20:00, or after today's invites are used up, it's queued: the card moves to Done as Queued to send, and it goes out on its own once LinkedIn allows. You don't need to approve it again.
When you ask Revnu in chat to send one LinkedIn message, invite or InMail, your ask is the approval and it goes out, paced, with no card. Say you want to approve it first, for example "draft a DM to Grace, I want to see it first", and it waits in Review as one card. Approving that card sends it.
If LinkedIn refuses the send, the card stays so you can try again. For every other kind of card, see the Review screen.
Note
Approve LinkedIn cards in the dashboard. A LinkedIn invite or message card can't be approved from Claude, ChatGPT, the API or another app using the Revnu connector. The card there may show an Approve button, but pressing it fails. Open Review at revnu.com/dashboard/review. See the MCP server.
Which approval settings cover LinkedIn?
Two switches in Settings > Agent, under What Needs Your Approval and then LinkedIn:
Connection Requests: invites sent outside a sequence.
Messages: messages and replies sent outside a sequence.
On Pro, both start on Ask Me First, so each one-off invite or message waits in Review with its exact text.
Neither switch covers sequence steps. A sequence's LinkedIn steps follow Start Sequences, because approving the sequence approved its steps. That's why approving a sequence can send many invites while both LinkedIn switches still say Ask Me First. See what Revnu asks before it acts.
How do I make LinkedIn send without approving every message?
Pick the one that fits:
Put people in a sequence. Approve it once and every step sends on its own. This is the usual way.
Switch one-off sends to Just Do It. Set Connection Requests or Messages to Just Do It in Settings > Agent. Revnu's one-off invites or messages then go out without a card, still paced.
Ask for the send in chat. "Send Maria a connection request" is your approval for that one invite. It doesn't wait in Review.
How do I change the connection note or the follow-up message?
You don't need to start over.
Open the sequence and press Edit
Open Leads, pick the campaign, click the steps pill next to it and press Edit.
Pick the LinkedIn step
Click the step you want to change.
Connection Request: choose No Note or Note, and write the note. A note can be at most 200 characters.
LinkedIn Message: choose Template and write it yourself, or Write It for Me and leave guidance in the notes box for Revnu. Revnu then writes a different message for each person.
Insert variables
Press Insert Variable to fill in each person's details, such as their company name.
Save it
Press Save & Approve.
Or tell Revnu the exact wording in chat. It updates the sequence. A changed sequence follows Start Sequences: on Ask Me First it waits for you to approve it again, and on Just Do It it goes live.
People already in the sequence keep their place. Steps they haven't reached yet use the new wording.
Revnu never sends a LinkedIn note or message with an empty field. If a person is missing a value you used, such as a company name, Revnu doesn't send them that step while the value is missing. Ask Revnu to research the missing values, or to rewrite the step without that field.
Revnu sends invites without a note by default, because free LinkedIn accounts only get a few notes a month. Revnu has no data showing that a note raises or lowers acceptance, so try both if you're curious.
How do I make it sound like me?
If a note or message sounds robotic, don't settle for small edits. On LinkedIn, short and plain wins:
Invite with no note, or one or two sentences. A blank invite is normal on LinkedIn. If you add a note, say why you're connecting in your own words and stop. No pitch in the invite.
Paste your own wording as the template. In the step, choose Template and write the message the way you'd type it to someone you met once. Use Insert Variable for the bits that change, such as their company.
Or show Revnu how you write. "Make it sound like me, here's how I'd write it: …" works better than "make it friendlier".
The same advice as for emails applies, see how to make sequences sound like you. Put words you never want used in Never Say in Settings > Memory.
Does Never Say cover LinkedIn?
Partly. A sequence that uses a word or claim from your Never Say list can't go live, whatever your settings. You have to rewrite it before you can approve it, and that covers its LinkedIn steps too.
One-off LinkedIn invites and messages outside a sequence have no such check. Revnu reads your Never Say list every time it writes and follows it, but nothing blocks the send if it slips. If that matters to you, keep Connection Requests and Messages on Ask Me First so you read each one. See teach Revnu your business with Memory.
Can one sequence use LinkedIn and email?
Yes. A sequence can mix three kinds of step: Email, Connect on LinkedIn and LinkedIn Message.
Steps run in order, one after another. Each step waits a number of working days after the one before. A message after an invite can instead wait for the person to accept.
Each person needs what the steps need. Email steps need an email address. LinkedIn steps need a LinkedIn profile. Someone missing one waits unstarted rather than getting a shorter sequence. People with only a LinkedIn profile can run a LinkedIn-only sequence.
Messages only reach connections. A LinkedIn message step with no connect step before it only reaches people you're already connected with.
If they don't accept, after 10 working days the sequence skips the steps that needed them to accept and carries on, for example with the email.
A reply on either channel stops the sequence for that person. So do a bounce and a decline.
InMail isn't a sequence step. Ask Revnu for one when you want to reach someone important without waiting for an accept. It needs InMail credits or an open profile, and Revnu sends at most a few a day.
Revnu doesn't connect to a CRM. Leads and their replies on both channels live in Leads. See integrations.
Where do LinkedIn replies go?
Replies show in two places in Revnu, and still in LinkedIn itself:
Inbox, on the LinkedIn tab, which lists your LinkedIn conversations. If teammates have connected their LinkedIn, pick whose account to read.
The lead's row on Leads, which shows the person as Replied and shows their latest messages when you open the row.
When someone replies to a LinkedIn message from one of your sequences, Revnu tells you who replied and what they said, where you usually talk to it: iMessage, Slack or the dashboard chat. Then:
A no or a "not now": Revnu updates the lead and stops. It doesn't draft anything.
"Stop messaging me": Revnu also adds them to your block list, so nobody contacts them again.
Anything else: Revnu puts the exact suggested reply in that same message. Say "send" and it sends. Say what to change and it rewrites. Nothing goes out until you say send.
You can always answer yourself, in Inbox or in LinkedIn. Messages Revnu sent are marked Sent by Revnu. More on handling replies: replies and booking calls.
Will LinkedIn work for a consumer product?
Usually not. LinkedIn reaches people by job title and company, so it fits selling to businesses. If your buyers are individual consumers, ads and search reach them better.
For a consumer product, these usually fit better:
Posts on X, Reddit or Threads that you publish yourself. See social posts.
Ads on your own X, Reddit or TikTok ad account. See connect X Ads, Reddit Ads or TikTok Ads.
Posts on your site that people find in search and AI answers. See getting posts onto your site.
If it doesn't work
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| A lead shows Replied, but Revnu didn't tell you | Ask Revnu "any LinkedIn replies?". It reads your LinkedIn inbox, including conversations you started yourself, and tells you who replied |
| Approve on a LinkedIn card fails in Claude or ChatGPT | LinkedIn cards can only be approved in the dashboard. Open Review at revnu.com/dashboard/review |
| You approved, but nothing went out | Approved invites go out within your daily limit and working hours, spread across the day. See why approved invites don't all go out today |
| The editor won't save your note | A connection note can be at most 200 characters. Shorten it |
| You can't find the sequence | It's on Leads: pick the campaign, then click the steps pill next to it. There's no separate Sequences page |
| You want to stop all LinkedIn sending now | Switch off LinkedIn Sending in Settings > Agent. It stops every LinkedIn send for good, sequence steps included. Saying "pause" in chat holds every LinkedIn send too, until you resume |
| LinkedIn says Paused on Connections | See why LinkedIn sending stopped |
