How Do I Find Companies Making Their First Sales or Marketing Hire?

A GTM play for Revnu. A company posting its first sales or marketing job is moving from founder-led selling to a real growth engine, and needs tools, data and help before the hire starts. Revnu finds those first hires and writes to the founder while they plan.

The first sales or marketing job a company posts marks the end of founder-led selling. The founder is about to buy a CRM, data, tools and help, and wants the new hire productive from week one. Revnu finds companies posting that first role and writes to the founder while they're planning.

Why it works

A tenth sales hire joins a system that already exists. A first one joins nothing. The founder has to choose everything at once, and is open to anyone who makes the hire succeed faster, or makes the hire less urgent.

How to run it

  1. Name the first role. "Founding account executive", "first SDR", "first marketing hire" or "head of growth, first in team".

  2. Find the posts. Revnu finds fresh job posts for the role at small companies, with the date.

  3. Check it's the first. Revnu checks the company's team and its people for anyone already in sales or marketing.

  4. Read the post. What the hire will own, the tools named, and the goals.

  5. Write to the founder. Offer to get them results before the hire starts, or to set up what the hire will need.

The prompt

Find companies with fewer than [30] staff in [your market] that posted their first [sales / marketing] job in the last 30 days, and check nobody already works in that role there. Read each post for what the hire will own and the tools named. Find the founder and their work email. Write an email that mentions the role and offers to [get them results before the hire starts / have everything ready for day one].

Try this in Revnu

Each lead keeps the job post and the team check on its Signals tab. Your first sequence waits for your approval in Review.

Run it every week

Every Monday, find companies that posted their first [sales / marketing] job last week and add the ones that fit our buyer to the First Hire campaign.

Set it up as a workflow once and it runs on its own. See recurring work with workflows and the workflows API.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Revnu know it's the first hire?

Words like "founding" or "first" in the post are a strong clue. Revnu also checks the company's people for anyone already in that function and notes what it found on the lead.

Who should the email go to?

The founder. At a company this size they're the one hiring and the one choosing tools.

What if the hire is already made?

The post carries a date, so ask for the last 30 days. Even after the hire, a new team of one needs everything set up, so the email still fits.

Can I pair this with funding?

Yes. "Raised a seed round in the last six months and posted a first sales job" is one of the sharpest lists you can build.

Does this work for other first hires?

Yes. A first finance hire, first designer, first data engineer or first people lead each signals a new function being built. Name the role.
