What's on a Lead: Why Now, Sources and Updating Lead Info

What a lead on the Leads page shows (the Why Now, its source links, the fit score, its campaign and its draft), how to update a lead's info or tell Revnu something it should know, what Relationship Route means, and where a directory or event list lands.

Every lead shows why Revnu picked it. Open a lead on Leads, and its Signals tab lists each researched detail, such as the Why Now, with a one-line reason and links to the pages Revnu read.

Know something about a lead that Revnu should use? Tell it in chat, and it updates the lead and rewrites the email. You can also edit any draft email yourself.

What does a lead show?

Click a company on Leads to open it.

  • The fit score. A number from 0 to 100 with a label such as Strong Fit or Promising Fit. It rates how closely the company matches who you sell to. It doesn't predict replies. See what the score means.

  • Drafts. The email Revnu wrote for this person, once there is one.

  • People. Who Revnu found at the company and who it chose to contact.

  • Signals. Under Why We Picked Them, each researched detail with its value, a one-line reason and its source links. Below that, Why This Score gives the score's reasons, and Firm Facts sums up the company.

  • Activity. What was sent and what came back.

If your table shows a Why Reach Out column, it gives the same reason in one line, so you can scan a list without opening each lead. On All Leads, you can add it from View Settings, then Columns.

What is a lead's Why Now?

The Why Now is the recent thing that makes this company worth contacting today: a new funding round, a job post for the role you sell to, a product launch. Revnu finds it while researching the lead, and it can become the first line of the email.

Each Why Now links to the pages Revnu read, such as a news story, a job post or the company's own site. Click a link to check it yourself.

Tip

Before you approve your first sequence, open the source link on a few leads to see when the news happened.

Revnu only writes a Why Now into an email when it has a source link, so every opening line it sends is backed by something real. It uses the Why Now in the first email only. Follow-ups take another angle.

How do I update a lead's info or leave a note?

  1. Tell Revnu what you know

In chat, in the dashboard, Slack or iMessage, name the company and what to use:

Acme just hired a Head of Sales, and I met their CEO at SaaStr last month. Use that in the email.

Revnu saves it to the lead's research and rewrites the email around it.

  2. See it on the lead

Open the lead on Leads and go to Signals to see the updated details, then Drafts to read the new email. Want a word changed? Edit the subject or message yourself, or ask Revnu for another version.

Tip

Want an email held while you add your notes? Say "pause" and Revnu holds anything waiting to send until you're ready. See pause or stop everything.

If a lead shouldn't be contacted at all, open its status menu on Leads and choose Not a Fit.

Can I update several leads at once?

Yes. Name them in one message, such as "for Acme, Northwind and Globex, mention our new SOC 2 report", and Revnu updates each lead and its email. Then open any of them on Leads to see the result.

What can I edit on a lead myself?

You can How
Edit the draft email's subject and message Open the lead, then Drafts. Only while the lead is Drafted and the email isn't queued or sent.
Set how you're handling the lead The status menu on its row: Contacted, Meeting Booked, Customer, Not a Fit or Do Not Contact. Revnu stops the sequence's emails and LinkedIn steps to that lead.
Choose which columns the table shows View Settings above the table, then Columns.

For contact, research and score fields, just ask Revnu in chat. It updates them for you and checks any new email address before using it. To add people you already have, see import your own list.

Does my first email wait for me?

Yes. Your account's first sequence always waits for your yes, whatever your approval settings say. Revnu shows you the first email in chat and asks. Until you approve it, the sequence shows Needs Approval.

To find it, pick the campaign on Leads, then click the steps pill next to it, for example 3 Steps. It's a great moment to read a few Why Nows and their source links before you say yes. See sequences and approval settings.

Questions about lead details

What does Relationship Route mean?

Relationship Route is an opening line about a real connection between you and the person, such as a school, a past employer, an investor or an accelerator you share. For example: "We both went through YC too."

Revnu fills it only when the research finds a real overlap, and it names only the founders the evidence shows. When there's no honest connection, it stays empty, and Revnu leaves that line out of the email to that person.

To help it find more routes, add your founders' schools, past employers, investors and accelerator to Settings > Memory. Shared history only ranks people who already fit your buyer, so if schools or past employers don't matter to you, say so and Revnu skips them.

Where does a directory or event list end up?

On Leads, usually under its own campaign. When Revnu turns a directory, member list or event page into leads, it normally files them under a campaign name, for example "UK freight forwarders". If you want a name, say it: "add them to Leads as a campaign called UK forwarders".

To see only that list:

  1. Open Leads.

  2. Click the Campaign dropdown above the status tabs. It reads All Leads until you pick one.

  3. Choose the list's name. The number beside each campaign is how many leads it holds.

The page address keeps your choice, so you can bookmark it or share it with a teammate.

Can't find the list? It may not be saved as leads yet. A finished list can come back first as a message in chat or a card in Review, and the card leaves Review once you answer or dismiss it. Ask Revnu "add that list to Leads". It then finds each company's website, the right person and their email in the background. See how Revnu finds leads.

If it doesn't work

What you see What to do
The Signals tab says "No signal evidence recorded." Revnu saved the lead without per-detail sources. Ask it to "add sources for the Why Now on Acme"
You can't edit the draft It's already queued or sent, or the lead isn't Drafted. Say "pause" to stop queued email, then ask Revnu to change it
Signals or the draft still shows the earlier info Edit the draft yourself, or tell Revnu again with the exact wording you want
