How to check your AI visibility

To check your AI visibility, write 20 to 30 questions your buyers would ask an AI assistant about your category. Ask each one in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, and record whether you are named, where you appear, who is named instead and which pages are cited. Repeat the same questions every week, because answers change from one ask to the next.

  1. 01

List the questions buyers actually ask

Write 20 to 30 prompts in the words a buyer would type, not in your own marketing language. Mix category questions ("best [category] for [type of company]"), problem questions ("how do I [job you solve]"), comparisons and alternatives. Add a few that name you directly, so you can see how assistants describe you. Sales call notes and support tickets are the best source of the phrasing real buyers use.

  2. 02

Ask every assistant in a clean session

Run each prompt in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, plus Google's AI Overview if your buyers search there. Use a logged-out or fresh session so your own history doesn't steer the answer, and ask as a buyer in the country you sell to where you can. Paste each full answer into a spreadsheet with the date, the assistant and the exact prompt.

  3. 03

    Score mentions, position and tone

For each answer record four things: whether you were named, where in the list you appeared, how you were described (accurate, outdated or wrong) and which competitors were named. Your mention rate is the share of answers that name you. Your share of voice is your mentions divided by all brand mentions in the same answers. Both tell you more than any single answer.

  4. 04

Write down which pages get cited

Assistants that search the web show their sources. Record every cited URL and sort them into your own pages, competitor pages, review sites, directories, forums and "best of" articles. This list is your to-do list. If one review site or list keeps getting cited on questions where you are missing, getting onto that page can move the answer faster than anything on your own site.

  5. 05

Fix the gaps one question at a time

Start with the questions where competitors are named and you aren't. For each one, publish a page that answers it directly: a comparison, an alternatives page, a pricing page or a how-to with real specifics. Check that your robots.txt lets AI crawlers read your site, and get listed on the directories and review sites the answers already cite.

  6. 06

    Re-check on a schedule

One check proves little, because answers drift between days and phrasings. Re-run the same prompt set every week, or daily for your most important questions, and track your mention rate over time. Expect weeks, not days, between publishing a page and seeing it cited. Revnu asks these questions every day and publishes the pages that change the answer once you approve them.

Buyer prompts to check your AI visibility

Category prompts

Use these to see whether you make the shortlist when a buyer doesn't know your name yet. What is the best [category] for [type of company]? Which [category] do [job title]s recommend? Top [category] options for a team of [size] What [category] should a [industry] company use this year? Best [category] for [specific use case]

Problem prompts

Buyers often describe the problem before they know a category exists. These show whether you appear at that earlier stage. How do I [job you solve] without [common pain]? What's the fastest way to [outcome]? How do [type of company] handle [problem]? Is there software that [does the job] for [type of company]? How can I stop [problem] from happening every [week or month]?

Comparison and alternative prompts

These are the questions asked closest to a purchase, and the ones where a missing comparison page costs you most. [Competitor] vs [competitor]: which is better for [use case]? Alternatives to [competitor] for [type of company] Cheaper alternative to [competitor] Is [competitor] worth it for a [size] team? What do people use instead of [competitor]?

Brand prompts

Ask these to check that assistants describe you correctly: the right category, current pricing and an accurate list of what you do. What is [your company]? Is [your company] any good? How much does [your company] cost? [Your company] vs [competitor] Who is [your company] best for?

Local prompts

For businesses that serve one area, location changes the answer, so ask as a buyer based there. Best [service] in [city] Who is the most trusted [profession] in [city]? [Service] near [neighborhood] open on weekends Affordable [service] in [city] for [type of customer]

Why Revnu for checking your AI visibility

Buyers now ask ChatGPT which tool to use before they ever search Google. Give Revnu your website and it checks what the main AI assistants say about you, who they recommend instead, and what it would take to change that.

  1. 1Reads your website to learn what you sell and who buys it.
  2. 2Asks the main AI assistants the questions your buyers ask, and records who gets named and which pages get cited.
  3. 3Writes and publishes the pages that answer those questions, then re-checks so you can see the answer change.

Why one check isn't enough

AI answers change from day to day and from one phrasing to the next. A single screenshot tells you very little. Revnu asks the same questions repeatedly, across assistants, and reports how often you are named rather than whether you were named once.

What changes the answer

Assistants cite pages that answer the question directly: comparisons, alternatives, pricing and how-to pages. Revnu finds the questions where a competitor gets cited and you don't, writes the page that should be cited, and publishes it on your site.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI assistants does it check?

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, asking the questions a buyer in your market would type.

How do you measure AI search visibility?

Ask a fixed set of buyer questions across the main assistants, repeatedly, and count. The useful numbers are mention rate (the share of answers that name you), share of voice (your mentions against competitors' in the same answers), your average position when named, and which pages get cited. Track them weekly on the same prompts, because a single answer can change on the next ask.

Why does ChatGPT give different answers to the same question?

Each answer is generated fresh. The exact wording, the model version, whether it searched the web, your location and your chat history all change the result. That is why AI visibility is measured as a rate across many asks and several assistants, not as a pass or fail from one screenshot.

What should an AI visibility tracking tool show you?

At minimum: which assistants it checks, the exact prompts, how often you are mentioned, who is named instead and which URLs get cited. The useful ones also tell you what to publish next. Revnu tracks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity daily, plus Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, then writes the pages for the questions you're missing and publishes them once you approve.

Can I check AI visibility by hand?

Yes, and doing it once is the best way to see the problem. The catch is volume: 30 prompts across four assistants is 120 answers per round, and the numbers only mean something when you repeat the round every week. The method above works by hand; keeping it up is the hard part.

Is this free?

You start with a free trial. Revnu asks for a card when you sign up and starts on what you typed straight away. After the trial, plans start at $99 a month. Cancel any time in Settings.

Does anything run before I sign up?

No. Nothing is checked or generated on this page. Revnu does the work inside your account, where it can read your website, keep what it finds and carry on from there.
