How to do programmatic SEO

Programmatic SEO means building many pages from one template and a dataset, each targeting a variation of the same search pattern, such as '[product] vs [competitor]' or '[service] for [industry]'. To do it well, find a pattern with real buyer demand, gather facts that differ for every variation, write a template with room for those facts, and publish in small batches you can measure before scaling.

  1. 01

    Find a repeatable search pattern

Look for searches that share a structure and change one variable: '[competitor] alternatives', '[tool] vs [tool]', '[service] in [city]', '[template] for [use case]'. Check that several variations have search volume and that the people searching them could buy from you. A pattern with buyer intent and a few hundred variations is worth more than one with thousands of variations nobody searches.

  2. 02

Build the dataset before the pages

Every page needs facts that differ from its neighbors, or it is a thin page. Make a spreadsheet with one row per page and a column for each fact you will show: features, pricing models, locations, integrations, examples, reviews. Pull from your own product, public sources and your own research. If a row has nothing unique to say, drop that page instead of publishing it.

  3. 03

Write one page by hand first

Write the best version of a single page yourself, then turn it into the template. Give it a direct answer at the top, sections that change with the data, a comparison table where it fits, an FAQ built from real questions and a clear next step. Leave a slot for a hand-written paragraph of context on the pages that matter most.

  4. 04

    Generate, then read a sample

Fill the template from the dataset and read at least ten pages in full before publishing any. Check that sentences read naturally with each value swapped in, that every fact is correct, and that no two pages say the same thing in the same words. When the same problem shows up twice, fix the template rather than patching individual pages.

  5. 05

Publish in batches and link them

Release 20 to 50 pages at a time rather than thousands at once, so you can see what Google indexes and ranks. Build a hub page that links to every page in the set, link related pages to each other, and add them all to your sitemap. Submit the sitemap in Google Search Console and watch the page indexing report.

  6. 06

Prune and expand from the data

After a few weeks, Search Console shows which pages earn impressions and which Google crawled but chose not to index. Improve or remove pages that stay unindexed, since a large share of ignored pages can weigh on how Google sees the rest of the site. Expand the patterns that rank, and refresh the dataset whenever prices or features change.

Why Revnu for programmatic SEO

Programmatic SEO means a page for every search worth answering: each competitor comparison, each alternative, each industry you serve. Revnu plans the set and writes each page properly, so you get the reach without thin, copied pages.

  1. 1Finds the repeatable search patterns in your market and how many people search each one.
  2. 2Plans the page set and the order to publish it in.
  3. 3Writes each page from research and publishes them on your site.

Why thin pages fail

Google and AI assistants skip pages that differ only by a swapped word. Every page Revnu writes has its own research: the real differences, the real prices and the real use case.

Start where you can win

Revnu starts with the searches that have buyers behind them and few strong pages competing, then works outward as the first pages rank.

Frequently asked questions

How many pages does it publish?

As many as are worth writing. Revnu starts with a small batch, checks how they do, then keeps going.

What is the difference between programmatic SEO and traditional SEO?

Traditional SEO usually means writing and optimizing pages one at a time, each aimed at its own keyword. Programmatic SEO builds many pages from a shared template and a dataset to cover every variation of one search pattern. The ranking rules are the same for both: each page has to be useful on its own. Programmatic only changes how the pages get made.

Can you give an example of programmatic SEO?

Travel sites with a page for every 'flights from [city] to [city]' route, job boards with '[role] jobs in [city]', and software companies with '[product] vs [competitor]' or '[app] integrations with [tool]' pages are all programmatic SEO. Each page shares a template but pulls different data, such as prices, schedules, listings or features, so it answers its own search.

Is Google Ads considered programmatic?

Partly. Google's display ads are bought through automated auctions across many sites, which is programmatic advertising, while search ads are bought keyword by keyword. Neither is programmatic SEO. Programmatic SEO is about earning unpaid search traffic with pages built from a template and data, and it costs nothing per click.

Does Google penalize programmatic SEO?

Google doesn't penalize pages for being built from a template. It does treat pages made at scale mainly to rank, with little unique value, as spam under its scaled content abuse policy. The test is whether each page would help someone who landed on it. Unique data, real differences between pages and honest comparisons pass that test; swapped words don't.
