# Keep People Off Your Outreach

> Stop Revnu contacting existing customers, competitors, partners or people who left, with the block list in Settings > Agent and the status menu on each lead. Exactly what a domain, email or LinkedIn entry blocks on email and LinkedIn, and why unsubscribes are permanent.

**To keep your customers off your outreach, block their domains.** Add your customers' website domains, such as `acme.com`, to the **Block List** in **Settings > Agent**, and nobody at those companies gets an email or a sequence step.

The block list also takes single email addresses and LinkedIn profiles. Revnu won't save anyone on it as a lead to contact. What else an entry blocks depends on its kind and the channel ([see the table](#what-does-each-kind-of-entry-block)). For a lead Revnu is already contacting, use the lead's status menu on **Leads**.

## How do I block a company or a person?

### 1. Open the Block List

Open **Settings** and choose the **Agent** tab. Scroll to **Block List** and press **Add Entries**.

![Settings, Agent tab: the Block List with Add Entries at the right and the check box below the description](/docs/screens/settings-block-list.webp)

### 2. Paste what to block

Paste emails, website domains or LinkedIn profile links, one per line. A column copied from a spreadsheet, or a CSV, works too. Add a reason in the box below if you like, such as "existing customers".

### 3. Press Add

Revnu tells you how many it added. Anything it can't read as an email, a domain or a LinkedIn profile is listed as not added, so you can fix it.

### 4. Check someone is blocked

Type their email, domain or profile into the check box at the top of the **Block List**.

You can also tell Revnu in chat: "never contact anyone at acme.com". Revnu adds entries when you ask. It never removes one on its own.

## What does each kind of entry block?

| You add | Saved as a lead | Email | Sequence steps on LinkedIn | LinkedIn invites and messages outside a sequence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A domain, like `acme.com` | No one at that company. Covers its subdomains too. | Every email to that company, follow-ups included. | Stopped. | **Not blocked.** |
| An email address | Not that person. | New emails to that address. | Only when Revnu has that email on the person. | Not blocked. |
| A LinkedIn profile link | Not that person. | Only when Revnu has that profile on the person. | Not started for that person. | New invites and new messages blocked. |

> **Warning:** A domain doesn't stop a direct LinkedIn invite. When Revnu sends an invite or message outside a sequence, it checks LinkedIn profile entries only. To keep someone at a blocked company off LinkedIn, add their LinkedIn profile too.

Two more things follow from the table:

- **An email entry doesn't reliably stop LinkedIn, and a LinkedIn entry doesn't reliably stop email.** To keep one person off every channel, add both their email and their LinkedIn profile.
- **For the safest block on a company,** add its domain and the LinkedIn profiles of anyone there you know.

## How do I keep my existing customers off the list?

Block their domains. Copy the website or email domain column from your customer list into **Add Entries**, or upload the file in chat and say "add every company in this file to my block list". Do the same for competitors and partners.

## Does the block list stop emails already going out?

It depends on the entry:

- **A domain entry** stops every email and sequence step to that company, follow-ups included.
- **An email or LinkedIn entry** stops Revnu starting a new conversation. Someone already part-way through a sequence still gets their follow-ups.

To stop everything to one lead now, use the lead's status menu:

1. Open **Leads** and find the lead.
2. Click its status to open the menu.
3. Choose **Contacted**, **Meeting Booked**, **Customer** or **Not a Fit**. Revnu stops every email and sequence step to that lead until you clear it.
4. Or choose **Do Not Contact**, which also puts the company on your block list.

## Questions about blocking

**Can I block a whole country or a domain ending like .de?**

Use Memory for that. The block list takes emails, domains and LinkedIn profiles, so an entry such as `.de` isn't accepted. To keep Revnu away from a country, say it in your request and add it to who you sell to in **Settings > Memory**. Revnu follows it on every new list. See [keep leads to one country](/docs/find-leads).

**Does Not a Fit block the company?**

No. **Not a Fit** stops Revnu contacting that lead, which is the whole company, not just the person on it. Queued emails are cancelled, and later emails and LinkedIn sequence steps to that company are refused. But the company isn't added to your block list, and you can clear the status later to hand the lead back.

**Do Not Contact** is the one that also puts the company's domain on your block list.

**What about someone who has left a company?**

Their old work email stops working, but they may turn up at a new company. Block their LinkedIn profile to keep them off LinkedIn wherever they work, and their personal email if you have it.

What you do with their old company depends on what you want:

- **You still want that company.** Don't mark it Not a Fit, because that stops contact with everyone there. Tell Revnu:

  > Jane left Acme. Find who does her job now and write to them instead.

It should find the replacement and contact them.
- **You don't want that company.** Mark the lead **Not a Fit**, or block its domain to keep it off for good.

**Can I remove someone from the block list?**

Yes, with one exception. Press **Unblock** next to the entry and confirm. Revnu can contact them again. A lead that was already declined because of the block stays declined.

The exception is unsubscribes. When someone unsubscribes from an email sent by one of Revnu's sending inboxes, their entry shows **Unsubscribed** as who added it, and **Locked** instead of **Unblock**. They stay blocked for good so Revnu never emails them again.

When someone replies to one of your emails asking to be removed, Revnu adds them to the block list as well.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I stop Revnu contacting my existing customers?

Add their company domains to the Block List in Settings > Agent. A domain blocks everyone at that company on email and in sequences. You can paste a whole column from a spreadsheet, or upload the list in chat and ask Revnu to block them.

### Does the block list work on LinkedIn too?

Yes, with a LinkedIn profile link: it blocks new invites and new messages to that person. A domain stops sequence steps to that company but not an invite or message Revnu sends outside a sequence, and an email entry covers email only. Add the person's LinkedIn profile to cover every LinkedIn send.

### Can I block every contact in one country?

Put the country rule in Settings > Memory, where Revnu keeps who you sell to, and Revnu follows it when it finds and contacts people. The block list is the hard stop for specific emails, domains and LinkedIn profiles, rather than countries or domain endings like .de.

### I blocked someone but they still got a follow-up. Why?

An email or LinkedIn entry stops new conversations, not follow-ups already under way. Block the company's domain to stop follow-ups, or set the lead's status on the Leads page to Contacted, Customer or Not a Fit.

### Does marking a lead Not a Fit block the company?

Not a Fit stops Revnu contacting that company's lead, and leaves your block list as it is. To block the company for good, choose Do Not Contact or add its domain to the Block List. If one person left and you still want the company, tell Revnu to find their replacement instead.

### Can I unblock someone who unsubscribed?

Unsubscribes stay blocked for good, so they're never emailed again. Any other entry can be removed with Unblock.

### Can Revnu remove entries from my block list?

Only when you ask. Revnu adds entries whenever you ask, and removes one only when you name it and ask in that message. You can always remove entries yourself in the Block List in Settings > Agent, except unsubscribes.
