# Add Revnu to Slack

> Install the Revnu Slack app, type /invite @Revnu in your channel, paste the code if the screen shows one, use a Slack Connect channel on Managed, and fix no hello, an admin block or Revnu leaving.

Install the Revnu app, then invite Revnu into the channel you want it in. Revnu posts "Connected to" your business name there. From then on, you mention @Revnu in that channel to talk to it.

You need to be able to add apps to your Slack workspace. In some workspaces only an admin can approve new apps.

If Revnu's team set up your account and sent you a Slack Connect invite, you don't install anything. Skip to [Slack Connect channels](#slack-connect-channels-managed).

## Steps

### 1. Install the app

In the dashboard, open **Connections**. Find **Slack** under **Talk to Revnu**, press **Connect**, then **Install**.

During sign-up, choose **Slack** on **Where Should It Live?**, press **Continue**, then **Add to Slack**.

![The Put It in Slack sign-up screen, with the Add to Slack button at the top](/docs/screens/onboarding-slack.webp)

### 2. Allow it in Slack

Pick your workspace in Slack and press **Allow**.

### 3. Invite Revnu to your channel

Open the Slack channel you want Revnu in. If you're still on the Revnu page, press **Open Slack**. Type `/invite @Revnu` in the channel and send it.

This is what puts Revnu in the channel. It works for public and private channels. If Revnu is already in the channel, mention @Revnu there instead.

### 4. Check for the hello

Revnu posts "Connected to" your business name in the channel. During sign-up, the page shows **It's in Your Channel** and **Continue** lights up.

> **Tip:** Installed but no hello? Type `/invite @Revnu` in the channel. Installing the app adds Revnu to your workspace, but not to a channel.

## If the screen shows a code

Some workspaces link by code instead. This happens when your Slack workspace is already connected to another Revnu account. The sign-up page then shows **Paste This in the Channel You Want It In**, with a code that starts `revnu-link-` and a **Copy** button.

### 1. Invite Revnu first

Type `/invite @Revnu` in the channel. The code does nothing until Revnu is in the channel.

### 2. Paste the code

Press **Copy**, then paste the code into the same channel and send it.

### 3. Wait for the reply

Revnu replies "Connected to" your business name, and the page moves on by itself.

Each code works once. If the page shows **Try Again** instead of a code, press it for a fresh one.

## Slack Connect channels (Managed)

On Managed, or if Revnu's team set up your account, Revnu usually lives in a shared Slack Connect channel that we create for you. Revnu is already in that channel.

### 1. Accept the invite

Accept the Slack Connect invite from Revnu's team.

### 2. Mention @Revnu

Open the shared channel and type @Revnu with your message.

> **Warning:** Don't install the app or type `/invite` in a shared channel.

**How do I know Revnu is in the shared channel?**

Type `@Revnu` in the message box. If Revnu is in the channel, it shows up in the suggestions. Pick it, write your message and send it. Revnu replies in a thread.

Revnu may not show in the channel's member list, because it belongs to Revnu's workspace, not yours. That's normal. Mentioning it is the test.

If nothing happens:

1. Check that you accepted the Slack Connect invite. In some workspaces an admin has to approve Slack Connect invites too.
2. If you've accepted it and @Revnu still doesn't answer, ask your growth engineer to re-send the Slack Connect invite. Tell them in the channel, or email support@revnu.com.

## What you'll see

- Revnu posts "Connected to" your business name in the channel.
- In **Connections**, the Slack row shows **Connected** and your workspace name. Until a channel is linked, it shows **Finish Setup**.

From then on:

- Mention @Revnu in the channel to start a conversation. It replies in a thread.
- Reply in that thread and Revnu keeps reading without another mention. It ignores other chatter in the channel.
- Revnu posts its own updates in the channel when Slack is where you last wrote to it.

> **Note:** Everyone in the channel can see Revnu's replies and updates. In your own workspace, pick a channel your team uses, not one shared with people outside your company. Revnu doesn't read direct messages in any workspace.

## How do I add another channel?

In your own workspace, type `/invite @Revnu` in that channel too. To see every channel, press **Manage** on the Slack row in **Connections**. They're listed under **Linked Channels**, where you can also unlink one.

## How do teammates use Revnu in Slack?

### 1. Invite them to Revnu

Invite each teammate in **Settings > Account > Team**.

### 2. Match their Slack accounts

Press **Manage** on the Slack row in **Connections**, and match each teammate to their Slack account under **People**.

Revnu then knows who is talking in Slack, and can @-mention the right person when a message is for them.

## If it doesn't work

| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Nothing happens after the install | Revnu isn't in the channel yet. Type `/invite @Revnu` in the channel |
| The **Slack** row in **Connections** says **Finish Setup** | Revnu is installed in your workspace but isn't in a channel yet, so it can't hear you. Type `/invite @Revnu` in a channel, or press **Finish Setup** to link one |
| You pasted the code and nothing happened | Revnu has to be in the channel before it can see the code. Type `/invite @Revnu`, then paste the code again |
| "This channel isn't linked to a Revnu account yet." | Revnu sees you, but the channel belongs to no account. Whoever set up your Revnu account can link it from **Connections** |
| **Waiting on Your Slack Admin** | Your workspace blocks new apps until an admin approves them. The channel is linked, but Revnu can't post yet. Ask whoever runs your Slack to approve Revnu, then press **Check Again** |
| Revnu stopped posting in the channel | Someone removed it, or the channel was archived. Type `/invite @Revnu` in the channel again. Until you do, Revnu sends its updates to your phone or the dashboard chat |
| The install failed with a message such as **That Install Link Expired** | Press **Try Again** to start the install over. If it keeps failing, email support@revnu.com |
| The channel is already linked to another Revnu account | In your own workspace, a channel links to one Revnu account only, so Revnu leaves it alone. Use a different channel |

## Frequently asked questions

### I added Revnu to Slack and nothing happens. What do I do?

Type `/invite @Revnu` in the channel you want it in. Installing the app adds Revnu to your workspace, but not to a channel. Once invited, Revnu posts "Connected to" your business name and answers when you mention @Revnu.

### The setup screen gave me a code. Where does it go?

Type `/invite @Revnu` in your channel first, then paste the code into that channel. Revnu replies "Connected to" your business name. The code does nothing until Revnu is in the channel.

### Does Revnu work in Slack Connect channels?

Yes. On Managed, Revnu's team usually sets up a shared Slack Connect channel with Revnu already in it. Accept the invite and type @Revnu. You don't install anything.

### How do I know Revnu is in our shared Slack channel?

Type @Revnu in the channel. If it appears in the suggestions, pick it and send a message. Revnu may not show in your member list, which is normal. If nothing happens after you accepted the Slack Connect invite, ask your growth engineer to re-send it.

### Does Revnu work in private Slack channels?

Yes. Type `/invite @Revnu` in the private channel, the same as a public one.

### Why does it say "Waiting on Your Slack Admin"?

Your workspace needs an admin to approve new apps. The channel is linked, and Revnu starts posting once an admin approves it. Once they have, press **Check Again**.

### Can I DM Revnu in Slack?

Revnu works in the Slack channels it's in, so mention @Revnu in a linked channel. For a one-to-one conversation, use the dashboard chat.

### Can my whole team talk to Revnu in Slack?

Yes. Anyone in the linked channel can mention @Revnu. Invite teammates in **Settings > Account > Team** and match them to their Slack accounts in the Slack connection's people list, so Revnu knows who's who.
